Trinity tops Abilene High 5-3

Sebastian Colon’s two-out, two-run double broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning and lifted Euless Trinity to a 5-3 victory over Abilene High in a District 3-6A baseball game Tuesday in Euless.

Trinity starter Nick Canard allowed three runs on six hits. He struck out five and walked three in 3? innings. Alex Greene won the game in relief, throwing 3? scoreless innings. He gave up five hits, struck out two and walked none.

Ryan Johnson went the distance on the mound for AHS. He allowed five runs on six hits. Johnson struck out four and walked one.

Trinity, which began the day a game back of Hurst Bell for first place, improved to 6-3 in district. The Trojans are 15-13 overall. Bell beat Haltom 4-1 to remain in sole possession of first place.

Despite the loss, AHS (16-10, 5-6) remained percentage points ahead of both Weatherford and Richland for the fourth and final playoff spot. Richland beat Weatherford 5-2 on Tuesday in Weatherford. AHS wraps up district play at home against Trinity at 5 p.m. Thursday, while Weatherford plays at Richland on Thursday. Weatherford finishes district with two games against Bell next week, while Richland has two games against Trinity. San Angelo Central, which has a bye this week, is third at 6-4.

AHS jumped out to a 1-0 lead as J.D. Dugger singled with two outs and scored on Ethan Flanders’ infield hit. Josh Carroll had singled ahead of Flanders to keep the inning alive.

Jeremy Colon led off the bottom of the first with a home run, tying the game at 1.

Trinity took a 2-1 lead on a two-out error in the second inning, but Kallin Sipe put the Eagles back on top with a two-run homer in the fourth. Matthew Ezzell had reached on an error before Sipe’s blast.

Trinity tied the game on Dylan Crook’s solo blast to lead off the bottom of the fifth.

The Trojans won it in the sixth. Ellis reached on a leadoff error, and Nike Tratree hit a one-out double. Then after Johnson got a strikeout for the second out, Sebastian Colon came up with the game-winning, two-run double.
