A Euless Trinity RBI single to left field in the top of the first inning put the Weatherford Kangaroos (15-8-1, 3-4) behind, 1-0, a deficit the latter was ultimately unable to overcome Tuesday night at home. While the visiting Trojans were kept off the board the remainder of the game, the team’s early run proved the difference-maker, as Euless Trinity walked away with a 1-0 District 3-6A victory. Weatherford Head Baseball Coach Jason Lee admitted the Roos, who earned two hits, struggled at the plate against the Trojans. “Trinity threw a good pitcher and he kept us off balance a little,” Lee said. “We have to do a better job of hitting and giving ourselves opportunities to score. We are going to get back at it in practice and be ready to go on Friday.” Senior Chris Molina hit a double to center field, while fellow senior Lukas Loran singled to right field for Weatherford. The Trojans’ first-inning score notwithstanding, the Roos did well keeping the former’s offense in check, with senior pitcher Mason Riney earning six strikeouts in six-and-two-thirds innings pitched. Euless Trinity did manage to string seven hits together, however, Weatherford clamped down in a number of key moments, stranding a total eight Trojan base runners. Lee praised Riney’s performance on the mound, as well as that of his defense as a whole. “Mason pitched extremely well against a very good hitting team,” Lee said. “We played pretty solid defense and were able to keep ourselves in the game.” Euless Trinity starting pitcher Nick Canard struck out six while surrendering two hits in a little over four innings pitched. Lee added that he has full confidence his team will rebound after the loss. “One thing I love about this team is they are competitors and I know they are the type of kids that are going to keep fighting,” Lee said. Weatherford has a rematch with Euless Trinity at 7 p.m. Friday on the road. The Kangaroos follow up Friday’s rematch with a pair of non-district games next week (both at home), against the Aledo Bearcats Tuesday and the Mansfield Tigers on April 13.
